The month of February and the Ahmedabad Tennis Premier League have been consistent with each other for the city of Ahmedabad. The ATPL is back with its fifth edition in the 2020 season which will span from 1st to 11th February.
Over hundred players belonging to more than ten teams will battle each other out for lifting the ATPL trophy and a prize money of INR 1.40 Lacs. The tournament will be spread across 6 venues wherein 28 ties will be played. Each team will be playing 52 games, each of which holds a value of 1 point.
Top four teams from the two primary groups will qualify for the knockout stage following the league matches. In the climax, should there be a tie between two teams, the ATPL Factor will be forced. According to this rule, the top two players from each team will play a doubles match decided by a ten point super tiebreak.
This year, Shatayu will be the title sponsor, Aarvee Denims as the fashion sponsor, Tranquil Business as finance and legal sponsors and finally Scientific Diagnostic Centre as Healthcare partner.
Previously, the ATPL has seen the ACTF Super Stars dominate the event, winning the first three editions of the event. However, they were dethroned last year in the finals by the team named “Tennis for Life.” This year the 10 participating teams are: ACTF Challengers, ACTF Rising stars, ACTF Superstars, Club O7, Creta Challengers, Kapadia Warhorses, Neon Masters, Shaishya Warriors, Tennis for Life and Tennis Zaade.
Tennis in Ahmedabad continues to grow. Through thorough planning and proper decision making, ATPL has successfully attracted a lot of players towards the game of tennis. The sporting carnival with laughs and competitiveness will once again grow in stature as ATPL promises another ten days of intriguing rallies.
